Design & Development

Our consulting and development services focus on technical documentation and learning solutions for your products and services, both internal and external. We are experienced developers of a variety of workplace documents – from learning tools such as elearning and job aids, to product tools, such as help systems, user’s guides, job aids, and web knowledge documents. Our goal is to develop content that is meaningful and actionable for customers and which also becomes an asset for your company.

How can we help you?

Work Write, Inc. can help you to connect with your customers by helping them to understand what you do, how you work, and how they can apply your products and services to their jobs.

Our primary consulting and development work focuses in these areas:

  • Rich-content workplace information products for software, technical skills, and soft skills. High-value content is more difficult to discern and write, but ultimately has greater impact on your customers’ ability to understand and use your products. As we design and development content, we immerse in your workplace and collaborate with your staff and customers to learn about your technologies and processes. Our goal is to develop content that is accurate, meaningful, and compelling.
  • Online user assistance and learning products. We plan, write, and develop online user assistance and learning products: help for desktop and web-based applications, troubleshooting guides, online books, and customer service and technical support guides. If it’s going online, we can create it in whatever format you need.
  • Interface language. Work Write, Inc. president Cheryl Lockett Zubak has been cited as one of the pioneers of embedded user assistance – that is, user assistance that is part of the behavior and real estate of the user interface of a software application. As interface content is reused on many devices, this kind of deep understanding and appreciation for the role of language in the interface is critical to a successful user experience.
  • Plain language consulting. Creating documents in plain language for customers is mandated by law for government agencies, but it makes good sense for everyone. Following plain language standards results in documents that are easy to understand and are written appropriately for each audience. We can help you to create documents and learning projects to meet plain language standards. We can also rewrite and redesign workplace information to make it more usable and understandable.
  • Topic-based authoring and consulting. The movement toward content management has revitalized topic-based authoring, a content development strategy that results in lean, focused, reusable content. We create all documents (no matter what authoring tool we use) with specialized topic type models that we have created through many years of research and practice in workplace information products. We can also teach your staff to write with topic-based models.
